I think you might be a little late for that this year. Most of those charities start taking applications in November. Here in South Dakota the Toys For Tots program has more applicaitons than ever, and not enough donations at this time. A week ago it was announced that the Salvation Army had a 20% increase in requests and were something like $300,000 behind in donations. If you are so hard up that you need Christmas help you must have a social worker/food stamp case manager atthe Department of Social Services and you should ask them if they have any ideas. However, I'm sure your kids would be satisfied with some little thing from a dollar store or even a thrift store. Each kid only really needs one gift and they don't have to be expensive. WalMart also has nice kids t-shirts for about $5.00.

It probably is too late in the season to find this help but if you call your local Catholic Charities they 'might' have enough for one gift each for the boys but don't be picky if it's not a toy. Any gift will be something they can open on Christmas morning.

As a matter of fact, do your boys have any toys they have forgotten about? Perhaps simply wrap one of those or ask a neighbor if their children have anything like that where you could do a gift exchange, that way both families will have a recycled gift that would be new to the children.

Alicia maybe you could try posting on CraigsList or checking Freecycle.

I'm a single mom with no help for Christmas for my kids. I'm homeless staying from friend to friend with no hope of what I can bring to my kids for the holidays. My kids think that Santa is coming, but what if he doesn't come then what do I say to my kids?

I don't know where you live but in Canada we have the Salvation army who would give you a food basket,'and gifts for the kids. Even if you could buy them a few dollar store items would help. A game you make and spend time playing with them. Some homemade gifts would be good if you can they have lots on this site. Also try places like developmental services they may help. What about the legions? Start in the yellow pages of your phone book for services in your area. Wish I could do more! God Bless! Oh contact area churches.

In my part of the country the charities that help with things like that have already purchased the gifts and distributed them. These charities vary from city to city and state to state. Sometimes they change what category of people they help from year to year.

Look in your phone book and call the different charities listed and ask them if they can help. At this late date talk to your pastor, your church might be able to help, but even for churches it is getting kind of late, because when something like this comes up they usually take up a special offering for a needy member of the congregation.

However at they age your son is he should understand if times are hard right now. You can buy a t-shirt at WalMart for no more than $10.00 and at this time that should be enough. No kid needs more than one gift from their parents and I would assume they will get gifts from grandparents and aunts and uncles. Also you should plan ahead, if you are hard up start shopping several months in advance.

I start in January and have been done for at least two months and everything was wrapped and under the tree right after Thanksgiving. No kid needs what they see on TV and they don't need designer labels.
