If you have a child whose birthday falls during December, it's easy for it to get lost in the shuffle of Chistmas. My son was due 12/26, but he came early on 12/5.
I tried to make sure he had birthday parties and presents that were separate from 12/25, and when he got older I took a small artificial Christmas tree and put it in his room. I decorated it with pictures cut from birthday cards, McDonald's toys, and the number at the top (foil-covered cardboard) was the year. I let him pick his favorite Christmas ornaments from our collection.
I made the last one from styrofoam--21. After that, I told him he could put up the tree himself from then on.
We'd put his birthday gifts under that tree. Eventually, the things he wanted were too expensive to not combine with regular Christmas, but he was fine with that.
I suppose I needn't have worried. He thought the whole month was for him.

My son was born on the 13th. We always kept it separate from Christmas except that we always put up the decorations on his birthday. He loved it although It was quite a rush if he was having a party.
There are 5 members of our extended family with birthdays in December. There were more when we were younger. We often had our birthday combined with Christmas since many of us were within a week of Christmas. The grandparents started that since they couldnt travel all over the state as each birthday occurred. We were scattered all over Michigan then.
They traditionally hosted the Christmas gathering back then as they had plenty of room.
Newer members of the family seem to be taking over the month of April now as the most frequent birthday month.
