One string of lights on my Christmas tree doesn't work and all the bulbs are black. It's not that one light makes them all out! Why are they black?

If the bulbs are all black that normally means they are burned out and the string of lights has a short in them. I do not believe there is much you can do with these lights except get a new sting and replace them.
The fuse may have gone out and that needs to be replaced.
Do you mean the little bulbs are black? This sounds like mold. I would toss them if that is the case. Black mold can be dangerous to touch or breathe so wear gloves and a mask when handling.
Burned out black, not black mold! When a bulb burns out it generally is marked inside by a dark grey or black film. It almost looks like a smoke mark.
So glad it is not mold. I found some lights a few years ago and they had mold inside. It was awful!
If all are black, it's an indicator that the lights are burned out.
Have you had these lights for awhile?
