I am a disabled single father with a low income of less then $405.00 a month, not leaving me with anything for Christmas for an 8 year old girl. Where can I get some help for Christmas? Thanks.

Try your church. If you don't have one give her one for Christmas.
I'm so sorry to hear that! :( Sir I know I may only be 15 I work in a lot of charities, and I know with the economy today its hard to buy a lot of things especially with that income.
Listen my advice for you is, a lot of the people I help out have put a certain budget away for their Christmas shopping, then they go out and find the best sales out there, they keep within whatever their budget is, and their kids are happy. You also got to teach your daughter that its not all about getting gifts. Christmas is about giving, sharing, etc. I hope you do well this Christmas. Merry Christmas!

I am 49 yrs old and I am disabled, so I live on a very fixed income. I have a 16 year old son here at home with me and I would like to know if I could get a little help with Christmas for him an my 5 year old granddaughter. I have been disabled since 2007 and it takes all that I get on SS to pay the bills and some of them don't get paid.

It would help if we knew where you live. However, why are you concerned about gifts for your grandaughter? Her parents should be doing that. I live off $600 a month retirement social security, and I spend about $40.00+ on my adult developmentally disabled daughter and $40.00 on my other adult daughter, then $20.00 on each of her adult kids, $10.00 each on my two sisters and then I also exchange gifts with my elderly aunt and her daughter.
I got the gifts for all of my grandchildren right after last Christmas, on sale for $10.00 each. I also got my sister's gifts last March, they had been close to $30.00 and they were on clearance for $10.00. I have been all done with my shopping for several months. I do a little at a time, starting right after Christmas, and sometimes I start before Christmas, for the following Christmas.
However, when my daughters were young we never gave them more than one gift from us, they each exchanged a gift, then they each got one gift from each set of grandparents and one each from each aunt/uncle. No kid needs more than one gift from each person and your son is old enough to understand the situation.
There are several places that will help with Christmas gifts, but a lot of them have a cut off age of 12 years. You can check with the Salvation Army, and other churches in your area, but most of all I would suggest that you talk to your pastor.
Are you on food stamps and do you get heating assistance? If you rent, do you get rent assistance. There is different types of assistance available if you dig until you find it. I don't know what type of work you are looking for. But at my Walmart store there is a couple door greeters that are in wheel chairs, and one has difficulty speaking.
Several of the other door greeters are so elderly that they have difficulty walking, but they are working, at least part time. Being I ride what is called a paratransit bus when I have to go places I meet all kinds of disabled people that are on their way to or from work. There was one girl in a wheel chair that worked in one of the hospitals delivering newspapers to patients rooms.
How do you know you aren't getting hired because of your disability? If they have told you this, that is discrimination. My daughter works part time in a fast food place, she wipes off the tables, and wipes off the trays, and does other cleaning. Oh yes, my kids, to this day have never had a gift with a designer label or anything in the electronic line. I hope this has helped you to some degree.
REDHATTERB said it all in no uncertain terms. Have you asked "ALL" charity organizations in your immediate area for assistance. This is a rather long pathetic story. Good luck.
I would think you could find a suitable gift for a 5 year old at one of the dollar stores? Maybe even something your son would like. If you look at your state's website, they should have Rehabilitation Services offered.
Tammy, go to your social services dept. they can help you or tell you where to go. I know around here we have trees with names of people on it and people can pick a card off and help that family during the holidays. Social services here is over this. You have worked and you deserve the help now so please go to your social services.
My family really needs help. Can anyone advise us? My husband works at an a/c company and they are very slow right now. We have 4 kids that we haven't been able to give a Christmas to in the past 2 years. I don't want this to be year 3. Our kids are 10, 9, 5, and 4. We've called numerous places for help, but we were too late for applications. Does someone know of any organizations we can contact this late in the season? Thank you.

Most places have a cut off, of right around Thanksgiving. They have to do this in order to do the planning that they have to do. Speak to your pastor, a lot of times if a person attends a church regularly, the pastor will take up a special anonymous offering for a needy family.
On the other hand each kid only needs one gift and they don't need designer labels, or electronic things. You can get a lot of fairly nice things at the different dollar stores, WalMart has decent t-shirts for less than $10.00, they even have CDs for less than $10.00. You can get some nice barely used things or even new things at thrift stores.
Also another thing to do is start your Christmas shopping right after Christmas. I live off a total income of $700 a month retirement SS. I spend $40.00 on each of my two daughters, and $20.00 each on my four adult grandkids. Then I buy for my two sisters and an elderly aunt and a cousin that is more like a sister. If I find a $40.00 item on sale for less, I get it and count it as a $40.00 item, even if I paid less.
I have had my shopping done for about four months, by buying one or two items a month and everything is wrapped and under the tree, and I have two packages ready to ship.
Hi - I can see that you are very concerned about this.
First of all most of us have no idea where you are located so it would be difficult to offer help other than tell you to go to local churches and ask if there is anything they can do.
You might also go to any of your local places that normally help low income families and ask for their assistance in your plight.
These can usually be found in the phone book or ask for a list from the Salvation Army.
The first responder was correct about starting early but that will not help you this year. Thrift stores, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Hospice shops, are all good places to start next year.
Hi, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I know with the current economy & the tax hikes next year people are suffering. I pray you & your family have comfort and have faith that the Lord will prevail and if He brings you to it, He will bring you thru it.
With that said, have you reached out to your community churches and Christian orgs. I know they will be willing to help. Once you get stabilized help others that are in the same situation you are now. I hope this helps and my words of encouragement are of some comfort. God bless.
Make some "heirlooms" with your kids. Ornaments for the tree, or write an illustrated (by all the kids) christmas story. You could read it and add a chapter every year. Try and find some free christmas related events or movies you can attend. Surprise a shut in or neighbor (chosen by the kids) with warm cookies. All of this becomes a part of the season for kids. Some of them can become traditions. Kids understand this and it can be very meaningful for them.
