Here is a simple way to make giving cash a little extra special this holiday season. During Christmastime, there are always a few different candy companies that make a storybook style candy box. When I was a kid, I always got the Lifesavers book in my stocking.

Steps:
I have always put Storybooks in my husband's, son's, and DIL's stockings. They're too old to get cash, obviously, but I sometimes do lottery scratch-offs, so I might do this.
I got a Lifesaver Sweet Storybook back in 6th grade (1962), and I was so happy. I had it on my desk at school, and suddenly it was gone. Somebody took it.
When my son and DIL were still young enough to get cash, I'd put it in some tiny packages and hang them on the tree. After they opened their rather small gifts (they were being SO polite), I told them there MIGHT be something else for them on the tree.
Our tree is loaded with ornaments, going back 50 years, so it was easy to hide the little boxes.
