Last year I made this Christmas tree by recycling used corrugated cardboard. It's fun to make, and will last for years. Saves all that traveling to and from the tree farm/lot!

Approximate Time: 4-8hrs

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut tree sections from cardboard.

  2. Glue sections together as shown. Weight down while glue is drying to assure good bond.

Paint tree as shown. Green for the needles, and white for snow. Make shadows under the sections.

  5. Drill or punch holes for lights. I used a drill with 5/16th inch bit and/or an ice pick to start a hole and used a 5/16th inch dowel to make hole larger.

  6. Attach lights by pushing into holes. Should be a tight fit, and lights should remain in place without additional support.

  8. Make globes and candy canes out of cardboard. Paint as shown, and hang with home made hangers made from small pieces of wood with small dowels inserted in drilled holes.

  9. Make star for top. I used one string of lights for the star alone, 35 lamps, does not get hot enough to cause any problems.

Turn on lights and enjoy! Next year, you won't have to make/buy another tree!

Editor's Note: Remember to turn the lights off at night or have them on a timer.

A decorative Christmas tree made of cardboard. Our 2009 Christmas tree. We always seem to have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. But this year we made it out of cardboard, glue and a little paint. I think it might be the best tree ever!

Approximate Time: 2 hours

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. I took a cardboard box and made it as big as possible. Then cut out a Christmas tree shape.

  2. Make a slit in the center of one of the trees, make a slit in the other tree on the top and bottom. slide the tree with two slits into the tree with one slit. (this will take some bending of the cardboard)

  3. Paint green (or any color yo would like)

  4. While the tree is drying cut up your wreath or garland. (I used the wire kind)

  5. Hot glue the garland or wreath pieces you just cut on the edges of the tree.

  6. Use the craft glue or glitter glue to spread a layer on each tree piece, then sprinkle with glitter and leftover pieces of the greenery.

  7. Put tree in sauce or soup can. Place in stand.

  8. Decorate

Enjoy!
