This past December we were looking for decoration ideas for our Solstice tree in our yard. We decided to make popcorn strings for the tree. Not only would it look nice, but we hoped that some of the birds might get to enjoy it too.

Definite thumbs up on this-I'd forgot all about popcorn garlands, thank-you for the reminder! We used to string these garlands when I was a child by alternating one kernel of popcorn with one dried cranberry; it made a very pretty tree decoration (inside) and on Boxing Day we would put it on the garden trees for the birds.
One thing we found that seemed to make a difference was to let the popped corn go stale overnight before trying to string it. If we tried to string it immediately after popping it always seemed half the kernels broke as we tried to string it.
