Silver Post Medal for All Time! 408 Posts Turn an empty clear glass jar into a Christmas jar light. Use the jar light to decorate your table for Christmas Eve, or make a few to decorate your front porch. A thrifty way to decorate for the festive season!
Total Time: 30 minutes, drying time included
Yield: one jar light
Supplies:
- clear glass jar (in this case, the jar has a circumference of 16")
- different pieces of leftover cardstock
- selection of small to medium beads of different colors and shapes
- golden satin ribbon, 0.3" wide
- battery operated string of pure white LED fairy lights
- needle and white nylon thread
- Tescoma 630902 Christmas tree cookie cutter, 2" high
- frosted glass sandblast spray paint
- two to three alcohol pads
- standard scissors
- pencil
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
Steps:
- Remove the label, wash the jar and allow to dry upside down overnight. Tip: If necessary, use mineral turpentine to remove any glue residue from where the label was stuck.
- Clean the jar on the outside with alcohol pads and allow to dry.
- Spray the jar with the frosted glass sandblast spray paint and allow to dry thoroughly.
- Use the cookie cutter to trace trees onto the pieces of cardstock and cut the trees out. You need to make enough trees to go around the jar ~ in this case, 26 trees were used.
- Use the needle to make holes into the centre of each tree. Then, using a double strand thread, string the trees onto the nylon thread. Add two to three beads in between each tree.
- Wrap the thread with trees and beads around the jar and make a few knots, so that it won't come undone. Use the hot glue gun to add a few drops of glue to the jar, so that the thread with trees and beads won't slide down the side of the jar.
- Use the ribbon to tie a bow around the jar's neck. Add the lights and voila!

Is the jar really that luminous? It's mesmerizing. As another member said, 'Very nice'.
