Last winter squirrels destroyed the hat covering on the lighted snowman decorating our front yard. The covering material remaining on the hat brim seems like hard plastic strands. Can anyone suggest a material and method to refurbish the snowman's black top hat?

Use chicken wire to remake and shape a hat, spray paint black!
It sees like the hat brim is still there. You can use a cardboard box to reconstruct a new hat and spray paint this one. I would see if there are lights that get warm before doing this one.
I believe you will need to supply several pictures for anyone to be able to help you with this project.
Also the size of the hat might be helpful.
Does the hat light up?
You have to be careful because if there are lights under the hat the material could catch fire.
The chicken wire may be the perfect solution as long as it does not make the hat too heavy for the motor mechanizing the arm that tips the hat to welcome all. The interior lights still can be seen and the squirrels will be looking elsewhere for materials to steal. Thank you so much for your suggestions & insights.
A photo would help.
Generally speaking, I find broken umbrella wire and then the fabric that covers them useful in some repairs.
Just be careful that whatever you use won't cause sparks or fire. Safety first!
