Gold Post Medal for All Time! 555 Posts I love old wooden thread spools and decided to make some Christmas tree decorations with them for a homespun Christmas tree this year. It's simple enough for a child to do and fun to personalize! Try them yourself!
Supplies:
- empty thread spools
- ribbons
- any holiday wrapping paper or even copies of family photos!
- rubber bands
- craft glue
Steps:
- Cut out pictures or decorative paper (even music sheets) and glue onto empty spools. I added rubber bands to hold them in place until thoroughly dried.
- Cut 18" long assorted ribbons (or longer if you want longer ornament tails) and fold ribbon in half.
- Fold again to fit ribbon into spool hole and thread it through the middle.
- You may tie each end of the ribbon on the spool to hold in place if you like. Note that I kept a pen in the looped side to keep it from slipping out when I was tying the other side of the ribbon. I tied some and not others just to experiment.
- Snip a few slits in the end of the ribbon and curl if desired. I ended up liking them the best.
- Happy Holidays!

I meant to mention that i found a box of old sewing supplies ( including the empty spools) at a church $2 a bag sale...a favorite place of mine to shop for tons of bargains including these!

That is SO CREATIVE! The ornaments turned out beautifully. I'll have to hunt up some old spools which I think are tucked away. Great craft!
