I need ideas for a float for Girl Scout Daisies Christmas Parade, where the theme is Santa Through the Ages. Our budget is very limited so it must be very inexpensive and easy to put together. This will be our first float ever.

Make a float with a fireplace (at the front of the float facing toward tohe back), stockings (on the fireplace and/or around the outside edge of the float), and a chair or two in front of the fireplace. That shouldn't cost to much. Boxes, paper and paint mostly. Borrow the chairs or check your local Goodwill (they might donate).
Get a roll of White paper about 3' wide. Cut off lengths about 4' tall. Get the girls to color or paint different Santas on the paper. Have the girls split up into two groups and split up the Santas between them. Let me be a little clearer: you are going to have the girls dress as elves and stand on each side of the float holding the Santa pictures so you need Two of each santa.
Since these girls are young you might want 3 girls for each Santa. Since the girls are probably short you could use sticks or wrapping paper tubes on each side of the Santa pictures for the girls to hold the Santa up with. Attach the sticks or tube from the top of the Santa picture down so they can hold the pictures up well. You might think of variations on this to fit your resources and girl power. An aside - you could also have the girls make the stockings being hung. And the stockings could be made to represent time as well.
