Christmas Pillowcases

This year, I am giving each of my grand-nieces and nephews (ten of them at last count!) a personalized pillowcase made of Christmas-print cotton fabric. My daughter is putting the names on the opening edge, so everyone will know whose is whose.

Each family has only 3 kids, so I bought yardage of three different Christmas prints. The pillowcases make it even easier when everyone gets home from the larger family Christmas craziness. I did these for my own kids several years ago and they still pull them off their pillows to use on Christmas morning!

I made the pillowcases a little big, using one yard of fabric for each case, turned the top under twice for a regular depth hem, and the normal 5/8 inch seam allowance on the side and bottom. I did double-stitch the bottom, just for reinforcements. Total sewing time, maybe ten minutes; Name printing time, probably closer to ten minutes each, using sharpie-type permanent markers.

Source: My aunt made all of us cousins cross-stitched pillow cases one Christmas, back in the day. I still have one of mine! Those were "normal pillowcases". The Christmas ones came out of my own frustration with multi-parted Christmas gifts that got all mixed up!

Would like to know what type the material was? This is a great idea. Do you have any pictures you can post?

Can you tell me step by step how to make a pillow case. I do not sew but would like to try to make these. I do have a sewing machine.

I like this but I missed something do they use the pillow case for something else other than sleeping on it? I would like to see a picture also.

Just goes to prove, kids still appreciate handmade items. My mother didn't have much money, but she could embroider, knit and crochet. She started early in the year and usually made each grandchild (20+!) something special every yer. She also made items for us kids. I still have a couple of items she knitted shortly before her death from cancer in 2006.

Not handy, can't sew or anything? One year my mom simply bought inexpensive Christmas sweatshirts and used fabric paint to trace around the edges of the images. My "Noel" sweatshirt is pretty tattered by now, but I still wear it proudly.
