Last year I made this Christmas tree by recycling used corrugated cardboard. It's fun to make, and will last for years. Saves all that traveling to and from the tree farm/lot!
Approximate Time: 4-8hrs
Cut tree sections from cardboard.
Glue sections together as shown. Weight down while glue is drying to assure good bond.
Paint tree as shown. Green for the needles, and white for snow. Make shadows under the sections.
Drill or punch holes for lights. I used a drill with 5/16th inch bit and/or an ice pick to start a hole and used a 5/16th inch dowel to make hole larger.
Attach lights by pushing into holes. Should be a tight fit, and lights should remain in place without additional support.
Make globes and candy canes out of cardboard. Paint as shown, and hang with home made hangers made from small pieces of wood with small dowels inserted in drilled holes.
Make star for top. I used one string of lights for the star alone, 35 lamps, does not get hot enough to cause any problems.
Editor's Note: Remember to turn the lights off at night or have them on a timer.
