My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years off and on so we've been through all the holidays. Whenever I ask him what he wants, he says he doesn't care or that he doesn't want anything. I want to get him something that means something to him, and that is possibly homemade (any suggestion helps!). Last Christmas I gave him a collage of a bunch of random pictures that he loved. Any suggestions?

I'm going to make my husband a sterling silver ring (formed from sheet metal that I've soldered, filed, and hammered). Most everyone on my list is getting handmade jewelry. But I wouldn't put that kind of work (and the expense of the metals) into something for someone who doesn't care about it or want anything. Someone who feels like that gets something like a gift card or underwear from me.
On again/off again together for three years and not really caring what he gets, if anything, tells me there's not a gift, personally made or otherwise, that will really makes a difference. What kind of gifts of true effort, time and love does he give to you? Decide what to buy or make for him based on what he does for you and/or gives to you.

I need help coming up with a creative, personal gift for my boyfriend. We've been together for three years, have always spent a lot of money on gifts, but now I have run out of ideas, because he says he doesn't need anything. I want to make him something he'll love and always remember or have.
I got him a bracelet with our anniversary on it which he loved and wears every day, as well as a list of 100 reasons why I love him. He's not big on sports or a particular band or anything, just loves going to the gym, spends a lot of time in school, and working. He really deserves a special gift this year, any ideas?
I am thinking of a cute homemade (I don't mind spending money to make the homemade gift though) gift in addition to a new bottle of cologne or something. He's 20, very smart, and loves spending time with me. We already went on a two day trip though, for his last birthday. Thank you.

How about filling a stocking with small gifts, plus chocolate, gum, whatever? (12/18/2009)

How about a collage of photos of the two of you or the places that mean a lot to you: where you met, your first date, etc.? Journaling your heart-felt thoughts about him (he sounds like such a great guy!) will mean so much to him.

Who was it that said give him a marriage license? I agree! However, I have another idea, as well. Could he use a new gym bag? Perhaps you could buy or make one. Fill it with his fave body wash, new gym clothes, and socks, a new towel, all the things he'd need at the gym. Use his fave color. He'll smile every time he goes to the gym, and not because of the great workout!

I used to lift weights for years and still have my first pair of workout gloves. How about having his first or favorite worn out pair framed and purchase him a new pair to wear out. Sort of like the first pair of worn out ballet slippers idea that ballet dancers do ;-) (12/20/2009)

Thanks so much everyone! I ended up getting him a new Coach wallet (he's needed a new wallet for two years and always comments on how its amazing my Coach wallet has lasted me five years and stayed in good condition) and then I used the picture collage idea, writing about all our favorite moments together and things that I know he loves, like krav, his favorite food, our favorite places and trips, etc! and the things I love about him, and all the things I appreciate that he does for me!
And haahah to the marriage license, I agree, but we're both still going to be in college for a few years so we're going to have to wait a while. (01/03/2010)

Well my boyfriend and I just passed our one year anniversary. I still remembered where our first date was, so I went to the restaurant and asked them if I could have a menu (once I explained why I needed one they freely handed it over). And I glued a collage of pictures, movie tickets, and all kinds of mementos of things we had enjoyed together to the inside of the menu.
