Something to keep in mind for next Christmas: if you are dismayed at the "gimme" mentality displayed by so many kids at Christmastime, instead of asking them "what are you getting for Christmas this year?" ask them instead, "what are you GIVING for Christmas this year?". Ask what they are giving Mom, little brother, etc. This helps take the emphasis off receiving and puts it back on thinking of others.

Tell them that in the interest of "giving" the family is going to adopt a child from a third world country and start a savings jar for the purpose. Keeps the giving all year round.
