I' d like to showcase my home for the Holidays. It's small and cozy. Each room has been redone by me. The mural on the right of the photo that you can't see all of, I did.
On the tree are some hand made ornaments. I used a tree we cut down. I dried the wood cut it like disks. I allowed it to dry more. I then wood burned woodland animals into the centers. Then dipped them in a light stain to seal them. The stockings are made from fur and velvet scraps from the local thrift store. I used newspaper to create the outline for the foot part.
The fireplace in the background was found beside the road, in the trash! I refinished it, and it still works. The mantel cover I also made from scrap material. The shiny floor was stripped and refinished over the summer (as well as the adjoining rooms). I put up the wainscoting behind the fireplace to tie in with the rest of the house.
I have gotten off subject of the holiday photo, but I am proud of all the hard work that was put into this house. I was able to accomplish redoing four rooms for less than $2000! We used Restore, sale ads and stores that sold reclaimed house supplies. Thank you for letting me boast a bit.
Happy Holidays!

Thanks for sharing your hard work. If you aren't a specialty home decorator, you should be! Delightful with a loving accent. Cay from FL
So inspiring. Can you take a picture of your artwork of the mountains on the wall and post? I painted at one time and want to do a mural on my wall. Can you give prep, type of paint used, etc?
Good Morning Joyce,
You have made a lovely home and put to good use so many things that most people can't even see the
value of. My hubby and I are the same way. We are both in our mid 70's and both raised by parents who went through the depression. We are so used to seeing how things can still be put to good use, that it's difficult for us to toss anything without taking a 2nd and 3rd look at much of it.
Before moving in with our son and his wife (after our health failed), our home looked very much like yours does now. Crafts and creative art were our relaxing pleasures. Gathering bits and pieces of all sorts of materials and odd things to be used later occupied many of our trips to the grocery store even, and amazingly, all those bits and pieces of "stuff" would appear one day in something we'd made. What looked like trash to one person was a treasure to our way of thinking.
We had so much fun doing all those things that we got old long before we realized that there would come a day when it all had to be broken down and given away or left behind. Any sort of craft book that we ran across, we wanted even if we didn't really want to do the craft.
Our eldest daughter and her husband worked in Vegas for over 15 years, and what we didn't know or learn, they did. Faux painting, anything anyone ever wanted or needed to know about first class decorating including wallpaper hanging and how wallpaper can be used in other ways, they knew and passed onto us to use in some lesser or more modest way in our own home and lives.
The longer we live, the longer our lists grow of things we'd like to do one day. Things we'd like to make or create, and even if we live to be 150, we'll never get it all done, and the lists will only be longer still.
Your home is beautiful and reflects your mentality and creativity and love of beauty and comfort. We both enjoyed seeing your pictures and reading your story very much.
Thank you for sharing it with all of us through ThriftyFun. You're getting a big thumbs Up from us.
Funny how fast time goes by when you're having fun, isn't it?

Thank you for letting us see your artwork. I know that you're proud of it and can remember all the steps each time you look at a piece. Do you give tours? Thanks again.
Your warm welcoming photos bring back so many fond memories. Thank you for sharing. I feel the best Christmases are homemade. All things trash to treasures are worth it.
Very pretty & inspiring! I would really like to see a photo of the wood ornaments you made out of tree limbs, why don't you post one as a submission?
