Christmas Float Ideas: "Christmas' Past"?

I need ideas for a Christmas parade float. The theme is Christmas' Past. We are a fifty+ women's club, so we want to tie it all together.

How about poodle shirts bobbie socks and a 55 Chevy playing Elvis Christmas songs? Sounds like fun!

How far "past"? How about a nativity scene on half and Xmas tree. stockings, maybe kids/g.kids singing carols on the other (Or 2 floats and elaborate each).

What can be better than the smell of Christmas baking
Have the women dress in long dresses with aprons and caps making Christmas goodies.
You could have a potpouri burning(put in a metal pail in case it gets toppled over) with cinnamon, allspice and ginger. The cookies could be real or made out of playdough

Others could be dressed for carolling behind a door waiting for a treat for a song
Add lots of decorations

I love msburny's idea! Why not make a faux jukebox (use cardboard boxes for the base and cover with colored paper, then run Christmas lights through holes poked holes from the inside), and have Santa bopping and jiving right beside it along with the girls in poodle skirts? Cute!

I love the Elvis and poodle skirt idea too!!! Immediately I thought about the old silver aluminum Christmas trees! I guess that was more in the 60's. I remember we had one when I was a kid.

They are making a comeback too! Good luck! I'd love to see the pics when you get it done whatever idea you come up with!

How about a theme like something out of Currier and Ives-a cozy warm kitchen scene with children making cookies and X-mas tree deco's by an old-fashioned stove and oil lamp, or maybe a Kinkaid winter scene photo/X-mas scene of family and relatives taking the horse and buggy out on a snowy eve to deliver presents to other families and friends with scenes of old Victorian houses dressed in Christmas best!

At any rate a look see at your local library can give you some good theme idea's too. Might look at some old Norman Rockwell illustrations too for some nifty idea's-ie -Christmas at the Fire House etc showing old fashion Fire trucks dressed up in Christmas finery?

At rate, enjoy and have fun!

How about a tribute to the nurses of the American Red Cross. During many Christmas Celebrations through US history the American Red Cross created Christmas Celebrations for the men who were enlisted and away from home. It would be fun, easy enough to create and would honor the women who worked so hard... Plus you may be able to get the American Red Cross in your town involved!
Good luck!
